Do I even need this?

Yes — if you accept credit or debit cards.

If your business takes card payments — in person, by phone, or online — the card networks require you to complete a yearly self-check called a Self-Assessment Questionnaire, or SAQ. This isn't something we made up. It's required by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover, and it applies to every business that takes cards, no matter how small.

Your bank or payment processor often checks for this, and may charge a monthly non-compliance fee until it's done. Completing your form is usually the fastest way to get that fee to stop.

Questions

Frequently asked

What is an SAQ?

SAQ stands for Self-Assessment Questionnaire. It's the official form the card networks require every business that accepts cards to complete each year, confirming how you protect customer card information. There are nine different versions depending on how you take payments — we figure out which one applies to you, for free.

How long does it take?

Most business owners finish in about 15 minutes. We ask one plain-English question at a time and explain anything that isn't clear.

Do I need to be technical?

No. There's nothing to install and no technical terms to learn. If you can describe how customers pay you — in person, over the phone, or online — you can complete this.

What if I take payments more than one way?

That's common — for example, an in-person terminal plus an online store. Each way you take payments needs its own form, and each one is a separate $25 assessment. We'll tell you exactly how many you need before you pay for anything.

Is my information safe?

Yes. Your answers are encrypted, and we never ask for actual card numbers at any point in this process.

What exactly do I get for $25?

A completed, official Self-Assessment Questionnaire and a signed Attestation of Compliance — a short statement confirming your answers — both as ready-to-use PDF files you can send to your bank or processor. This is your own self-assessment: we guide you through it and help you fill it out, but you're the one confirming the answers. We're not an auditor and we don't certify your business.

What if I'm not compliant — do I still get the documents?

Yes. You'll get your completed paperwork either way, plus a clear, plain-English list of what to fix if anything came back as not yet in place. Most fixes are small changes, not big projects.

Can my bank or processor verify this?

Yes. The forms you get are the official ones published by the card networks — the same forms your bank or processor already expects to see.
